Summer Skincare Treatments at The Park Medspa in Highland Park, NJ

As temperatures start to cool off and fall sets in, your skin needs to get acclimated. Just as the seasons change, so should your skincare routine. Your skin deserves some extra attention when transitioning to cooler weather. To guide you through, here are a few tips to ensure your skin is looking great during this seasonal change.

Skincare Tips to Transition from Summer to Fall

Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliating is necessary to remove dry, dead skin cells that are making your skin look dull. Exfoliating also stimulates blood circulation which makes your skin look rosy and radiant. Try to exfoliate once per week – no more!

Switch to a Mild Cleanser

Since your skin produces less oils in the fall and winter, choosing a non-drying, sulfate free, mild cleanser is important to ensure you don’t strip away your skin’s natural lipid (oil) barrier.

Also, if you wash your face more than once per day, reduce the frequency to avoid further drying out your skin. Washing your face before bed is optimal as you will also remove any makeup you’ve worn during the day.

Use Alcohol-Free Toner

Many face toners contain alcohol, which is detrimental to your skin. Always opt for an alcohol-free toner to avoid further drying out your skin!

Switch to a Thick Face Cream

Fall is the perfect time to switch to a heavier face cream. Choose one that contains a natural source of ceramides such as jojoba oil. Ceramides create a waterproof barrier on the outer layer of your skin and prevent moisture loss.

Continue Using SPF

Just because it’s no longer summertime, doesn’t mean you should stop using SPF. In fact, UVA rays, the ones responsible for skin cancer, are just as strong in the cooler months as they are in the summer. Always, always use sun block.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water so that your skin remains constantly hydrated.

Take Warm Showers

Avoid taking hot showers!! Yes, hot showers feel nice, but they also strip your skin of its natural oils and cause it to become dry. Make sure to moisturize right after you shower.

Turn on Your Humidifier

If the indoor air is dry due to the indoor heating system in your house, definitely consider turning on your humidifier. This will help prevent your skin from becoming excessively dry.
